Our Work In The World

Our Work In The World

Although individual members and attenders actively support many actions and organizations working towards peace, justice, and sustainability, the work highlighted on this page features that which has been approved by Redwood Forest Friends Meeting.

Anti-Apartheid Congregation

On November 3, 2025, Redwood Forest Friends Meeting approved joining the AFSC Apartheid-Free Communities Campaign pledge stating: Redwood Forest Friends Meeting joins American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) in its Apartheid-Free Communities campaign.

RFFM joins AFSC’s call on faith congregations and communities as well as other communities and organizations to join in and declare themselves “Apartheid-Free”.  As such we agree with the AFSC campaign pledge that states: WE AFFIRM our commitment to freedom, justice, and equality for the Palestinian people and all people; WE OPPOSE all forms of racism, bigotry, discrimination, and oppression; WE DECLARE ourselves an Apartheid-Free congregation and to that end; WE PLEDGE to join others in working to end all support to Israel’s Apartheid regime, settler colonialism, and military occupation.

Guatemala Scholarship Committee

On September 10, 1995, Redwood Forest Friends Meeting approved the establishment of a subcommittee to receive and disperse funds in support of students seeking post-secondary education in Guatemala.

Over the intervening 30+ years, the program has evolved and now the Guatemala Scholarship Committee receives donations in the U.S. and disperses them to Progresa, the sister organization managing the program on the ground in Guatemala. https://www.progresagt.org/

Sanctuary Congregation

On May 11, 2025, Redwood Forest Friends Meeting approved the following: Redwood Forest Friends Meeting declares itself a Sanctuary Congregation in alliance with the Sonoma County Sanctuary Coalition for Immigrant Defense. Redwood Forest Friends Meeting will not house people seeking sanctuary in its buildings but will offer support to other faith communities and organizations that house sanctuary seekers. Redwood Forest Friends Meeting will, through individual members and attenders, offer support to immigrant families as may be needed, including but not limited to volunteering medical aid, meal preparation, mental health referrals, transportation services, advocacy, direct action such as vigils, marches and non-violent protests, on behalf of the immigrant community in Sonoma County.

The Sanctuary Interest Group of Redwood Forest Friends Meeting meets on the first Sunday of each month (see calendar.) Our agenda usually includes reports on solidarity actions, vigils, and campaigns. Topics typically addressed are the Sonoma County Sanctuary Coalition meetings, Barrio Walks, Adopt a Corner, and city and county policies and programs to protect all residents who are in danger of being arrested, detained, and/or deported by ICE.
